Fully repackaged reissue of Mike Lundy's 1980 solo album, featuring updated liner notes that include archival photographs from the original recording sessions, an essay by Mike Lundy, and a 2015 interview between Mike and Roger Bong of Aloha Got Soul !
The premise behind every Aloha Got Soul release is to tell a story beyond the music.
The story of Mike Lundy is mysterious, complex, and layered with good intentions. The story of this reissue project is marked by multiple coincidences throughout the process of rereleasing music from The Rhythm Of Life.
Soon after selecting two songs from the LP for the inaugural 7” release (AGS-7001), we asked Mike to dig up any old photos he might have from the original recording sessions. He found plenty. But what Mike didn’t expect was to also find was a notebook which he kept in 1979 during the album’s creation.
That notebook revealed something Mike had forgotten years ago: he originally wasn’t supposed to record a full LP, just two songs. Those two songs turned out to be the exact same tracks we selected for AGS-7001.
Even more of a coincidence is that Mike Lundy and Aloha Got Soul’s founder Roger Bong were both born on the same day: November 28. To commemorate this unique coincidence, we’ve set the release date for The Rhythm Of Life as November 28, 2015.
We’re giving The Rhythm Of Life a second chance at life, to be reborn in the 21st century to an audience that’s ready and waiting to hear this music. This release features new artwork and packaging, including a liner notes booklet with an introduction by Mike Lundy, interview excerpts, and never-before-seen photographs.
The Rhythm Of Life is Mike Lundy’s only LP, recorded in 1979 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Inspired by bands like Tower Of Power and Earth, Wind & Fire, The Rhythm Of Life claims its identity in the funk-and-soul universe with inventive arrangements, clever rhythms, and a timeless quality that transcends the notion of what music from Hawaii should sound like.
