Esther Williams 'Last Night' is such a classic that it's very likely to have been played in every soul & funk club in the world. This highly versatile track is usually played off either the original 12', the LP or from dodgy bootlegs. The 7' version officially re-released here differs in that it doesn't have the trademark telephone ring over the introductory drum break. In 1973 Shreveport local soul singin' sensation Tommie Young made an album for Bobby Patterson on Soul Power. Some 45s were released from it before she disappeared into obscurity, the most notable one being 'Hit & Run Lover'. Such a swinging, catchy tune, the soul is for the heart but the rhythm is destined for the feet. A touch of strings points to the direction that music would take in the '70s, but this favourite with the ladies never betrays its origins.
