Probably the most breath taking album by Luc Marianni for techno aficionados, Video Screens Control is a journey inside a television, with it’s anchormen, sports and entertainment. The result is an outstanding collection of proto techno tracks, synth pop and leftfield music !
Luc who? Marianni? This reclusive french composer paved the underground music history with a handful of mind-blowing LPs but still managed to surprisingly fall under the radar. Most famous for his collaboration with Pataphonie's André Viaud and its leftfield experimental jazz antics (Nurse With Wound's list!), Luc Marianni released Souvenirs du Futur (also available while stock lasts) on Pataphonie's Fééri Music label, his first solo LP that pushed the envelope towards more electronic fields. Originally influenced by Michel Polnareff, Faust and Pink Floyd, he soon went far away, trying to make the guitar sound like anything but a guitar, which eventually led to electronics. Firmly stuck in the studio, Marianni never really performed live, which might have helped to surround him with mystery, even though he never ceased to give all he had to music, be it alone or with Jean-François Papin for his Rock Critics improv band (he actually was a rock critic and published many fanzines).
