As legend has it, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez came up with the idea for the Bucketheads while riding through Manhattan and listening to the radio. The Brooklyn-born DJ, already a New York house music star thanks to his production and remix work with “Little” Louie Vega (as Masters at Work), was unimpressed by the Euro-flavored dance records that were getting rotation and started digging in his own collection for the antidote to the tepid tracks coming from overseas.
