Expansive transmission from the hallowed studio of DFA hardware freak Gavin Russom, backed with rawer, darker Chicagoan remix by the Dirty Criminal Melvin Oliphant aka X2. The go-to gear-head for Black Dice, James Murphy and Holy Ghost, Russom, is in full flight for 'Night Sky'. But, in his typical, tantric style it takes around three minutes of lathered, layered synth propulsion before the beat appears, projecting an astral trajectory over plangent krautrock guitars and dizzying spirals of arpeggiated disco bass for the bearded dreamers. Better yet is the Mutant Beat Dance adjustment by Oliphant and Beau Wanzer, cooling Russom's psychedelia into a midnight street-stalking bassline and murky layers of frictional jakk beats.
