Hit Hit Flop Flop
In the music that comes from Brazil you will often find an exotic instrument called Guiko. It creates a squeezing sound which reminds me of the word ‘hit hit flop flop’.
On a warm sunny day I found some children who were swimming in a lake nearby. I asked them if they could sing ‘hit hit flop flop’ for me which I spontaneously recorded without letting them know. This recording became a key sentence of this song.
Hey Baba Rebop
In 1986 I began to work on a track in the Can Studio. For this track I used the first hardware sequencer at that time because it created a special drive. I had a live performance of the Jazz musician Lionel Hampton in mind who played live in Hamburg in the fifties.
While Hampton was presenting his Hey Baba Rebop dancing on a drum and sweating out his last drop of water the audience broke the furniture into pieces and devastated the hall. I decided to give this machine influenced ecstasy the name of Can’s percussionist Rebop.
