In the 1990’s some of Chicago’s greatest hip hop artists such as Common, Twista, The Molemen, and Rubber Room began to emerge. During this time, several record labels overlooked the “Windy City”. Artists were forced to press their own vinyl and release them independently. The legendary East of the Rock, was an example of this practice, their limited edition white label, Galaxy Rays EP was produced in this way. 50 copies were hand distributed by the artists themselves to vinyl shops, underground radio stations and Specialist DJs. Black Pegasus is proud to announce the licensing of the classic original master as it is set to be released worldwide. The four track EP features East Of The Rock members: The Mad Thinker, Flux, Mr. V, & DJ Mack Ten.

The title track Galaxy Rays is where hip hop begins and ends for many listeners. With its big bass line, hardcore drum programming, and UltraMagnetic MC’s sample the EP attracts music enthusists from every corner of the globe. Egyptian Musk, a hardcore break beat infused song dedicated to black women, is the lead off track. Burn Out Assasin, with the scratch hook, The New Style, is a head boppin track that incorporates a slight Ragga vibe with intense lyrical flavor. The fourth track Mr. Producer, has a jazz funk groove. The lyrics of this song includes the very popular chorus line, sampled from Main Source, – “ false producers telling lies”.

The B side features instrumentals from all four vocal tracks and as an added bonus, an additional dub. DJ’s will be enticed by these tracks, as they will be beat juggled in several future freestyle sessions. The B Side has just as many “bangers” as the A Side.
