Sistrum announces the return of Ireland’s Leonid, who offers a proper follow up to his highly regarded debut Sistrum EP, Sadim (SIS-009). Check!
The J3 EP pushes further down into the depths and brings forth timeless vibes for those who seek to shed the excess and get to the heart of the matter. And this matter is the groove – the kind of simple, effective groove that you can get lost in, the kind of groove that you can listen to forever and it just seems to get better the longer you listen to it.
Track 1 – J3 Uncompressed
J3 Uncompressed sets the tone for the EP – with Leonid’s trademark synth scapes and metallic tones pulsating amidst phased bursts of static. Dubby chord stabs, laden with cavernous reverb, subtly dance beneath icy analog string washes. Pure class, with a nice abstract bump to it.
Track 2 - Perseid
An ultra deep, growling bass groove is what you have in Perseid. It’s all about the interplay of the square waves and the subsonic bumps, hitting in all the right places. With gorgeous synth work layered in for extra warmth and hypnotic effect, this tune is a true masterpiece.
Track 3 – S&H
Rounding out the EP, S&H induces a state of suspended animation, with its endless-loop background textures and delicate electronic tones. Bass pulses drop into the mix early on, before crisp hi-hat patterns and claps round out the groove – concise and carefully crafted. Close your eyes and let this one work – it will refresh and soothe.
