The legendary Roots crew has betting getting over for years now -- and being a late night talk show house band hasn't diminished them one bit if "How I Got Over" is any indication -- if anything, it has more of an organ and drums back soul vibe than anything we've heard on their recent LPs! It's goes without saying that the drums are dynamite, but the hard grooving keyboards take it even deeper here, and Black Thought's soulful singing kicks it off before his inimitable, busy rap flow brings in a sharper intensity. A nice single, and more soulful than many of the terse, synth blasted numbers from recent albums! (Limited edition! It's hard to tell from the image but this is etched art vinyl -- with a silhouette of the Roots crew on one side, and the music on the other.)
