'I’m Not Likely to Change' is an intelligent pop album from one of contemporary music’s most talented writer/arrangers. Sounding like a long lost Elvis Costello record produced by Flaming Lips circa Soft Bulletin, the strings and horns borrow a page out the E.L.O. songbook, the melodies are reminiscent of Nilsson at his best. The album features Lee and Tyler Sargent of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah on bass and guitar duties. Before this bold debut, Andrew released the cult singles ‘We’re In Business’ and ‘There Must Be Some Kind of Misunderstanding’. Both songs appear as bonus tracks on the album. Check!
Armed with a DMX drum machine, a kazoo, a Wurlitzer, some junky synthesizers, tubas, trombones, a robot, and a broke-ass piano, Mr. Thompson sings tales of the absurd and the everyday. Oh yeah - and the boy can sing.
The Brooklyn resident has a background in Jazz vocals and corporate entertainment. In fact he won the Jazz Vocal M.V.P. award at Boston's prestigious Berklee School of Music and went on to sing in high-class restaurants, stuffy hotels and big name corporate functions.
He seamlessly mixes a diverse palette of influences that include ELO, De La Soul and the legendary Muppet Show pit band - Electric Mayhem - into material that is familiar, yet impossible to pin down.
