NYC was recorded in homage to the Big Apple, Steve Reid's hometown. It was recorded in two days at the Avatar Studio, which has been a recording home to such New York luminaries as Steve Reich and Miles Davis. Hebden comments that "Everything we did when making the record from choosing the studio to the food we ate to mixing the sounds to the order of tracks was done with New York in mind." Check!
