The second Subject Scotland release was composed using samples of sounds rather than the very obvious
presets which are overused in today’s electronic music. The producer has taken the Todd Terry approach to the
instruments in use while maintaining to include hisown element of funk; proving that: it is not what you have
got, it is how you use it. Check!
Side A1. Our Soul
Our soul has deep chords with a very strong vocal throughout the track. The main melody is a pattern played
using only white noise.
Side A2. Keygroups
Chopped up sample based track along the lines of the soundhack releases. If you have heard the likes of
Derrick May, DJ Bone or Rolando at a club recently, you may have heard this.
Side B1. Music Is
Once again, deep chords with some vocal snippets and a main melody with a hook to die for. Words can’t
explain this track.
Side B2. Jackin’ Off
Old Samples and dirty drums are the recipe for this number. It does remind me of early Chicago rather than
Detroit. A big bassline in the middle fills this track out nicely.
