Since his debut on the Detroit label Matrix in 1995, Convextion has remained a byword amongst the techno upper-crust for his brand of cerebral, passionate, fantastically textured music, and has garnered a cult following -- including DJ’s ranging from Derrick May & Kenny Larkin to Danny Tenaglia & Swayzak. The evolution of his sound reflects his roving infatuation with great sonic architects: he was inspired early on by the Cocteau Twins, Joy Division and early 4AD releases, and later discovered the beauty of Derrick May’s strings, Virgo’s basslines, the Burrell Bros.’ grooves, Juan Atkins’ Deep Space vistas and the relentless pulse and mesmerizing echoes of Basic Channel. His debut album was released on vinyl last year to critical acclaim, and is finally now available on CD. The CD version features a handful of exclusive tracks: the exotic and otherworldly “Venea”, which gracefully unfolds into soothing breath sounds, romantic pads, and alien squiggles, as well as an extended mix of the dub scorcher “Solum Ferrum”, and two potent interludes.
