CD version from this repress of 2 forgotten afro/funk tracks !

Encouraged by his musical succes in his native Ghana, Dan Boadi moved to the USA in 1978 for the first time and based himself in Chicago. He released 'Money is the root of evil' in a 500 copies pressing with ' Play that funky music' on the B-side.
Especially ' Money .. ' is carried by a - at the time ruling - disco production. It kicks off with flanged hihats, warm & round bass, simple horn riff, consistent percussion, thin church like organs and progresses into a light psychedelic jam, still riding on a steady groove, including several solo's and a vocal chorus that kicks in at almost half the track. Perfect for the late hours !! 'Play that .. ' is not as jump up but very nice. It holds a lush groove where light percussion, the same obscure/thin organs, loose guitar and sublime bass work etc merge into a casual jam, later joined by the chorusline. Both tracks bring together afro inspired rhythms and funky jazz jamming and reflect some of the cultural experiments in Chicago performed by groups like the Artistic Heritage Ensemble (the first, more minimal, release on this label is a repress from their 'On the beach' album) and The Pharoahs (later Earth, Wind & Fire). Now the Aestarium label rereleases these ultra rare tracks for the first time since their initial release. Well recommended !!!
