Really good doublepack CD here, compiled by Jazzanova ( for the new stuff ) and Gilles Peterson ( for the oldschool ). Gilles comes with an overwhelming dose of solid, hard to come by jazz cuts like Roy Haynes's 'Quiet fire' (check the drummer on this!), Rashaan Roland Kirk's beautiful 'Spirit's up above' as well as more great vocal jazz from Charles Mingus and Mark Murphy plus other features like the ones from John Coltrane, Art Blakely etc. Jazzanova come with a great selection of older, now hard to get cuts as well as some unreleased work. For example United Future Organization's classic 'Loud Minority', the beautiful stringladden cut 'Spirits in transit' by 4Hero, the Sleepwalker/Bembe joint 'Into the sun', the superb, yet unreleased Bembe Segue 10 minute plus cover of the Norman Connors classic 'Mother of the future', live from London's Jazz Cafe, the white label only Nikky-O's Butterflies, the hyped japan crew Soil & Pimp with 'Waltz for goddess', Matthew Herbert big band.must we go on?? Tracks are : Donald Byrd - 'Cristo Redentor', Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet - 'George's Dilemma', Roy Haynes - 'Quiet Fire', Rahsaan Roland Kirk - 'Spirits Up Above', Charles Mingus - 'Moves', Arthur Blythe - 'Autumn In New York' (Part 1), Mark Murphy - 'My Favorite Things', Lee Konitz - 'Five, Four And Three', The Jazz Crusaders - 'Young Rabbits', Art Blakey - 'Anthenagin', John Coltrane - 'Equinox', Bill Evans - 'Peace Piece', 4 Hero - 'Spirits In Transit', Re:Jazz - 'Inner City Life', Nikki O - 'Butterflies', Jeffrey Smith - 'Afro Blues', Sleep Walker - 'Into The Sun' (feat Bembe Segue - KJM edit), Two Banks Of Four - 'One Day', The Five Corners Quintet - 'Trading Eights', Shaun Escoffery - 'Breaking Away' (Koop remix), Bembe Segue - 'Mother Of The Future' (Live version), Soil & 'Pimp' Sessions - 'Waltz For Goddess', United Furure - 'Organization Loud Minority', Sunaga T Experience - 'No Reason No Rhyme' (Nicola Conte Plays A Mode For Tatsuo), & The Matthew Herbert Big Band - 'Everything's Changed' Tip!
