Otomis previous Emoticon release Zusammen/Vertrauen received a response that far exceeded their expectations. The two tracks of stripped-down, soulful, broken electronics were a hit with DJs like Chateau Flight, Recloose and Carl Craig, and the record went on to be one of Emoticons most popular releases to date. Now their unique sound gets another much-needed airing with two new loving-crafted slices of techno genius. Pakt is perhaps their finest track to date with a melody youll be singing all day, immaculately-produced beats and perfectly-positioned synths carrying it effortlessly through its nine-minute course. Raum is an apt title for the flipside, with its acres of sonic space between the beats and sounds. Proving yet again that less is more, its another long journey of a track with carefully-crafted chords and subtle nuances aplenty.The men behind Otomi are Colin Mcgeoch and Dave Anderson. Both classically trained in earlier life, they met while doing the same course electronics with music at Glasgow university. Dont expect any more Otomi material this year, but do stay tuned for a third ep in the first half of 2004. Two very chilled out pieces of soft whispering techno tunes, in style of Strand, or older Ultramarine stuff - very smooth!
