N'Dambi hails from the same city ( Dallas.Texas ) as homey soul singer Erykah Badu , for who she did background vocals as well, but aside from sharing a mutual affection for deep, dark funk grooves, that's about all they have in common . N'Dambi has the kind of smoky voice suited for late-night jazz bars, and appropriately, her surprisingly this album is filled with more jazz-inspired numbers than the kind of 'new' soul that many young singers have been striving for lately.
Not that N'Dambi can't get down. Her rich, throaty vocals over the smooth, late-night rhythms of 'Lonely Woman' and 'Deep,' recall such early '90s groups as Young Disciples etc, if not a little bit of Me'Shell Ndegeocello. The most impressive thing, however, is how N'Dambi feels (and sounds) comfortable whether she's exalting against the spare strings of a solo acoustic guitar ('The Sunshine') or acting as a jazz-era throwback ('See Ya in My Dreams'). This LP also includes ' Call me ' which is a superb soulful house track that was featured on Ron Trent's 'Musical Directions CD/LP and got great feedback from Dj's here .This lp features almost all of the tracks from her first CD( Little lost girls , 1998 ) but instead of dry studio versions these are backed up by a live band . If you are into Jill Scott , Erykah Badu or basically just quality , you need this ! Essential and therefore a huge tip! And this time on VINYL!!!
