Messages is the first full length CD-album by Detroits collective Strand. It compiles the gorgeous technosoul sounds of their three Message EPs, that were previously only available on vinyl, together with two extra bonus tracks. Strand is already for over ten years involved in the history of Detroit techno. Strand consists of Brian Boyer, Kech and B. Bonds (brother of Marty Bonds), and they began recording as T.H.D. for Antonio Echols Serious Grooves label. The first release as Strand was the Floyd Cramers Revenge EP (together with Claude Young) for Shakes Frictional label back in 1997. In 2000 Shake released their first Message I EP on his elusive label Frictional. In 2001 and 2002, Message II and Message III followed on Amsterdams Delsin label. During that period Strand also built up a big name with their live performances, performing twice at the DEMF.
Their lush sounds are now for the first time available on the cd-market. The sounds of Strand end up somewhere between Shakes freestyle techno approach and CiMs soft electronic excursions; strings, melodies and gentle rhythms are all around, with tracks going all funky and soulful, techno in a very musical manner. Its an excellent step in the continuing evolution of the Detroit techno sound! Check!
