Icons: Volume One is Emoticons first CD release. Its an essential collection of highlights from the labels previously vinyl-only back catalogue and its been designed as both a comprehensive introduction to the label for those new to it and a vital roundup of the best bits for those whove already succumbed to its charms. All of Emoticons key artists are present and correct, showcasing the full range of musical styles that have surfaced on the label (see track-listing). You can really see this as a best-off Emoticon CD release, which should please all lovers of this genre!!
Emoticon is a sister label of Headspace Recordings, a techno/house label founded in Cardiff by Tom Churchill and Raeph Powell in 1996, and recently described in DJ magazine as one of the worlds finest deep techno outlets. Emoticon was launched in 2001 to focus on soulful techno, broken beats and abstract electronica, with the recently-revived Headspace free to specialise in more dancefloor-oriented material from the house and techno spectrum
Coming up in 2003 are EPs from Double Helix, Marco Bernardi (w/ Norken remix) and Future Beat Alliance, plus more material from Otomi, Russ Gabriel and Tom Churchill.
