The material on the set was cut for ABC records in the years 1973 and 1974, immediately after he split with the Holland Brothers, who with Dozier were part of the Holland-Dozier-Holland powerhouse team at Invictus Records. The tracks on the album show Dozier stretching out as a stunning artist on his own -- richly talented in the vocal department, with a mellow honest voice that perfectly fits that tightly-written songs that were his biggest contribution to soul during the 70s -- backed by sublime arrangements that are both strident and soulful, mellow and uptempo at the same time. McKinley Jackson produced all the cuts and wrote more than a few on the set -- and arrangements are by the likes of Paul Riser, Gene Page, and HB Barnum. Like nothing else we can think of -- and great all the way through. The album features tracks from Dozier's 2 ABC albums -- Out Here On My Own and Black Bach -- plus 4 previously unissued cuts from the same time!
