The legendary soul singer/songwriter Isaac Hayes had struck it big by the time 1970 had arrived. Throughout the 1960s he was responsible for composing several of the greatest, soul songs of all time, including genre staples like "Hold On, I'm Comin'", "Soul Man", and "I Had A Dream", and had scored multiple hits through his lush, cinematic re-arrangements of already popular songs. On top of this, Hayes had systematically redefined what constituted an R&B LP the year before, via the narrative-structured soul classic Hot Buttered Soul.
