A defining characteristic of Danny Krivit's DJ sets has always been the strong elements of funk he threads throughout. Indeed, at the height of the pop-disco craze in the late '70s Krivit was sometimes criticized as being “too funky” for incorporating tunes from the likes of War and James Brown in his sets, going against the grain of the stiff and sanitized fare that filled the playlists of mainstream jocks. Ironically, it was exactly this funky flavor that allowed his style to survive and thrive, a direct throwback to the vibes that originally gave birth to disco and, even as tempos accelerated and styles changed, continue to be the beating heart beneath the most powerful dancefloor movers.
